Eat More To Lose Weight

Eat More To Lose Weight
by John GilbertGrant

The notion of 'eat more to lose weight' seems wrong to most people. But here is what you risk if you try a starvation diet. You could damage all of your body's weight management systems so severely that you are fighting obesity for the rest of your life. It is easy to avoid this damage and have your body healthy into retirement.

Simply, to lose weight, you need to boost your metabolic rate. And to boost your metabolic rate, one of the ways you can do this is to eat more often. If you don't eat for three or more hours, your metabolic rate begins to slow down, and when your body doesn't receive what it needs to function, it enters "starvation" mode, which is somewhat like hibernation.

This is a mode where starvation trigger is activated. Starvation trigger is a survival instinct that slows down the metabolic rate to ensure that body will burn fat as slow as possible so it will maintain the minimum energy level to survive over a period of time under harsh conditions. Hence this is the mode where fat is preserved.

During starvation mode, too, insulin and other enzymes that store the food is fat are increased so that when the next meal is eaten, you store more fat than usual from those calories. Finally, when you don't eat for more than three hours, your appetite can increase. And because of that, you may overeat and feel overly full, just as you might after Christmas dinner. This condition actually discourages fat burning because it decreases your metabolic rate and helps ensure that more fat is stored in your body.

Eat more Frequently To Lose Weight

To lose weight, what you need to do is to eat smaller portions, more frequently. Eat every two hours or so, which is a great way to avoid overeating and keep your metabolic rate humming along. You can snack on fruits and vegetables or eat other healthy snacks between (small) meals, which will help keep you satisfied and from getting too hungry. This will also give you the energy you need so that your body is not encouraged to store fat.

To do this right, you have to plan a little. The next time you go shopping, buy some healthy snack supplies. For example, you could mash a boiled egg with some cottage or cream cheese and put it on a stick of celery or some carrots with fresh almonds. Get creative! Have some small snack available all the time so that you don't reach for junk food. Try to eat something small every two hours.

Smaller portions for a smaller gut

At home use a small plate or if in a restaurant, ask for child's size serving. Have a broth soup to start the meal. Try to get 80% off your food eaten before four o'clock. Have a glass of water 10 minutes before each meal or have a piece of dark chocolate. Both of these ideas will take the edge off your appetite.

When done this way, your body will use the food you eat, but it will store food if you don't use it. It's not so much how much you eat, but when and how often you eat that matters when it comes to losing weight. That is in fact why you have to eat more to lose weight. Have a large breakfast, keep snacking through lunch, snack in the afternoon, and then have a very small meal at night. In fact, if you haven't eaten in the last three hours, you could go get yourself something to eat now.

Walk toward Fun and Weight Loss

Walk toward Fun and Weight Loss
by John GilbertGrant

Walking is one of the easiest exercises there is and it's one of the most effective. In fact, walking is the best way for a sedentary individual to begin an exercise program says Shirley Archer, a fitness expert and health educator from California.

It helps you lose pounds and inches, of course, but it does a lot for your psychological health, too. For example, there's Jim Wilson. He is a financial adviser from Arkansas, and he lost 50 pounds in just six months by walking. He states that as his weight fell off and as he continued walking, his self-esteem improved markedly. He also feels healthier and sleeps better.

Even if you simply want to walk to lose weight, you'll also gain medical benefits that can't be disputed if you walk. In fact, it's cardiovascular exercise that can help you reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, and other injury. It lowers your cholesterol and blood pressure, improves your heart's function, and can tone your muscles all over your body.

If you need to lose weight, walking can do it for you, but don't make it something you "have" to do; turning it into a chore will just make it unpleasant. Instead, make it pleasant, and don't be drastic about it, either. Do just a little bit every day to make all the difference. Start small. If you can, walk to work, and if you can't because your office is too far away, park further away from your building (about 15 minutes' worth), and walk the rest of the way. Just going to and from your car every day will give you 30 minutes of walking every day, which is a major milestone when it comes to losing weight and exercising.

At work, take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you can't manage three or four flights of stairs, take the elevator to one floor below where you have to be, and walk one flight of stairs. As you become better conditioned, take the stairs two at a time. This will help you burn calories off (yes, those for lunch, too), and you'll burn more at the same time and keep your weight loss going. And don't send an e-mail to a colleague in the same office building. At least a couple of times a day, pop over and tell him or her in person. Don't pick up the phone unless you absolutely must; instead, walk over and say what you need to same person. This gives you a chance to get up and away from your desk for a little bit and gives you a little bit of exercise, and it also gives you a good mental health break that will give you an emotional boost.

If you find yourself getting bored, switch things out and try something new. The first order of exercise is that it should be fun. So if you're finding that your walk is getting boring, take a buddy with you and walk home with each other. This gives you a chance to talk, and if you can talk while you're walking, you're also making sure that you're not going too fast or too hard for your own conditioning. This makes the exercising more effective.

Or, if you walk alone, listen to music while you do so. Pick something with a good walking beat and pop your headphones in, then get up and get moving so that you get energized. Even if weight loss is your actual goal, walking is also a good way to spend time with yourself alone, and it's enjoyable to boot.

Again, make walking fun. Try planning a route that will end at something fun. Maybe you want to go shopping in your favorite grocery store, to visit a friend, or to visit a favorite park. You don't have to do the same thing every day, and instead switch it out and end up at a different fun destination every day. Do whatever you want; if you don't want to go to the park, get a few groceries from the store (healthy ones, that is), or pop in to see a favorite movie at a local movie theater. Schedule this walk with your weight loss goals in mind so that when you've reached your goal, you can give yourself a (nonfood) treat to reward yourself.

Water and Weight Loss

Water and Weight Loss
by John GilbertGrant

Not everybody is aware of this fact; even people trying to lose weight, but water and weight loss are closely intertwined. We need water to survive and it is vital to our health. You can live for weeks with no food, but only days with no water. It flushes toxins and wastes out of our systems and helps the body circulate oxygen and nutrients.

Water and weight loss are interdependent. Anyone who wants to lose weight must make sure that they are keeping properly hydrated by drinking plenty of water daily. Water can reduce the urge to overeat by making you feel full, ensure the maintenance of proper body temperature and prevents dehydration.

If you deprive your body of much needed water consumption it can cause dehydration. Dehydration is a serious medical problem as it can lead to such medical problems such as kidney failure, shock, coma, electrolyte imbalances, and other health problems.

In medical treatments for dehydration, this is done both through frequent sips of water and intravenous administration of fluids.

A common question is, "How much water should I drink each day? This is always taught by the medical profession that the suggested amount is eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day. It is thought that water does speed up metabolism by approximately 30 per cent so in drinking water we can expect it to play a part in our overall weight loss.

Getting eight glasses of water daily keeps you healthy by flushing out waste products, toxins and other impurities. It also helps you lose weight by curbing appetite; if you drink a glass water 10 to 15 minutes before meals, youll feel less hungry, which helps you to cut down on your caloric intake and lose weight.

Dont wait until tomorrow to start getting the water your body needs. Stop reading this for a moment and go get a glass of water and drink it as you continue reading. Youll start to notice the difference right away. Remember how you were feeling like a snack only a few minutes ago? How about now? Chances are it seems less important than it did then. Water can help curb appetite; that glass of water youre drinking has exactly zero calories - how many calories were in that snack you were about to have instead?

Have a glass of water each morning after waking. Drink a glass before each meal and another about one hour after eating. Most people will be able to get eight glasses per day using this method. Once youre getting all of the water your body needs to stay hydrated, cleanse naturally and maintain proper weight, youll start to see the positive impact of proper hydration on your weight quickly. Whether you prefer spring water, filtered water or plain tap water, make sure to get those eight glasses every day, especially if youre trying to slim down. Water and weight loss go hand in hand and when you get enough water, losing weight will be much easier.

Weight Loss Tips

Follow These Weight Loss Tips That Will Work With Any Diet
by John GilbertGrant

No one particular kind of diet will suit every type of person or body type. However, there are some diet tips that will work with everyone and every eating plan, no matter your body type or diet. That's because these tips are central to the way our bodies work.

If you don't use these tips, you will either lose weight very slowly or you won't lose weight at all. You may feel, in fact, that you're fighting to lose weight and losing the battle. That's because your body has natural survival instincts that kick in and attempt to thwart any dieting you try to do.

However, if you follow and use these tips, you'll find that the weight loss you have will go much easier because you are going with your body and how it works, not against it. You will be enhancing your body and its own natural homeostasis, and you'll also be encouraging its natural healing process. As Dr. Joel Wallach says, "Give your body what it needs, and it will heal."

Obesity is a symptom of death and dying

Your weight maintenance and weight-loss systems are also those that handle your growth, energy, maintenance systems in general, and healing. These are in fact what make it possible to be alive. If you keep them going, and work with them, your life is going to be much healthier. If you work against them, though, you could damage your health and even kill yourself. Just as one example, an honest look at obesity is simply an illustration that it is a symptom of dying and death.

You can put little routines in place that will support your weight loss and life systems in general. Make sure you get enough water, that you exercise enough, and that you stretch enough. When you eat, eat small portions, and start eating early in the day, eating often. Chew your food well, and don't drink soda or oils that have been burned. Reduce or eliminate sugar, complex carbohydrates, and alcohol. Boost your protein just a little, sensibly.

We are creatures of habit so make a fun ritual. We got fat by always having a 'cookie with our coffee' ritual. Create new fun rituals that support your body being healthy.

Do the little things right and it will come right

And don't expect to do it perfectly every single time. If you forget to follow any of the tips during any of the days, just start again right away. Don't even wait until tomorrow; just start again now. Every day you do the right thing, the better things will go for you.

Understand and read the rest of the tips and then make little rituals that you write out for yourself (noting them on paper is especially handy) that will tell you when you should get up, eat throughout the day, and go to bed. Little by little, you'll see that these weight loss tips are going to support your life and your weight-loss in general.

Grab a piece of paper and read the rest of the tips or register to have them sent to you every couple of days. Start planning now to speed up your weight loss and have a better life.
